Here is the easiest and quickest focaccia to make. But it's not the fact that it’s incredibly quick to prepare that makes it so exceptional, nor its delicious taste or its soft-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside texture.
No! What makes this recipe perfect for all your gatherings is its unique appearance. By decorating it with edible flowers and aromatic herbs, you can transform your focaccia into a true work of art.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- 1/2 tbsp. sugar
- 2 tbsp. warm water
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3 tbsp. olive oil
- Garden herbs and edible flowers of your choice (lavender, phlox, marigold, zucchini flowers, nasturtium, bellflower, cosmos)
PREPARATION
- In a small bowl, mix 1 tbsp. of nutritional yeast, 1/2 tbsp. of sugar, and 2 tbsp. of warm water.
- Mix and let sit for 5 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp. of salt, and 3 tbsp. of olive oil.
- Once the yeast mixture has risen, incorporate it into the flour mixture using your fingertips. Add a little warm water if necessary to fully incorporate.
- Work the dough on a flat surface until smooth.
- Oil a mixing bowl and place the dough in the bowl, then coat it with oil.
- Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour.
- Spread the dough in an ovenproof cast iron skillet.
- Press your fingertips into the dough several times to create dimples on the surface.
- Season with salt and arrange the fresh herbs and flowers as you wish.
- Bake at 350 °F for 15 to 17 minutes.
Preparing the cheese dip
In a blender, purée equal amounts of cottage cheese and feta cheese until smooth. Season with pepper and add a hint of red wine vinegar, if desired. Place in a small bowl and garnish with chopped garden herbs (thyme, rosemary or oregano).
Serve with the focaccia drizzled with olive oil.
