Organic Gardening For Beginners

Organic gardening for beginners

When you look at your garden and envision sustaining yourself and your family from its bounty, you realize you owe it to the land to give it the best. That means nutritionally and water wise.

These are all parts of gardening organically, but by no means the entire tool kit. Certain practices will enhance your organic way of life.

Things to remember:

  • Anything natural (with the exception of meat) can go into your compost pile. A compost pile may be the most important item on the organic gardening list. There are numerous articles and tips for a perfect compost pile.
  • Use organic seeds for fruits and vegetables to sustain the practice in your landscape.

Sustainability

If you already have organic gardening down pat, try to go a bit farther and become a sustainable gardener.

This practice has all the hallmarks of organic gardening plus conservation of resources. It uses everything as many times as possible, never wastes anything organic and utilizes native plants as much as possible. In sustainable gardening, water becomes one of the resources that must be conserved and used wisely.

This is when rain gardens, rain barrels and small reservoirs come into play. Intelligent garden design and, ultimately, saving your organically grown seed also play crucial roles in organic sustainable gardens.
